Hobsons Bay City Council will be reviewing its procedures to cut single use plastics, such as shopping bags, drinking straws, plastic cups and plastic packaging.
The Council will also be coordinating initiatives to recycle electronic waste, often termed ewaste, such as old televisions and computers.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Peter Hemphill said Council, together with the Sustainable Environment Advisory Group (SEAG), have a commitment to reduce its ecological footprint and encourage the community to become more environmentally friendly.
Investigations at a national level show single use plastic is an issue, and it is an issue that is growing, Cr Hemphill said.
