Council is currently exploring new ways for reducing the number of lost pets that are taken to the pound.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill said the key to the whole approach was getting pets registered and microchipped.
We all know what its like when you lose a pet its a time of great anxiety until youve found them and we want to make this time as quick and as painless as possible for both pet and owner, said Cr Hemphill.
We will try to return as many animals as possible to their owners without the need for the pound but to do this we need your help: all owners must register and microchip their pets.
