Hobsons Bay City Council and Victoria Police are encouraging people to lock their parked cars and put valuable items out of sight.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill said this is one of the simple messages that came out of Councils first Community Safety Accord.

Vehicle break-ins are a significant problem in Hobsons Bay and local residents need to be more vigilant to reduce crime in this area, he said.

The Community Safety Accord, hosted as part of Cr Hemphills mayoral program, featured guest speakers Michelle Young, the Local Area Commander for Victorian Police, Des Hudson, Mayor of Ballarat City Council, and local resident Helen Bertocci.

Inspector Young said one of the most important things people can do is to make sure they lock their cars.

This may seem obvious but youd be surprised how many people leave valuables in prominent places in their unlocked vehicles, she said.
